HR Excellence award and Charles University

The European Commission published in 2005 the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers and Charles University declared in November 2017 that it will adhere to the principles of this “Charter and Code”.

Our aim is to improve the conditions at Charles University and obtain the “HR Excellence in Research” award that is awarded by Europen Commission to institutions that implement the strategy HRS4R (The Human Resources Strategy for Researchers) which is in accordance with the principles of the “Charter and Code”.

The implementation procedure that should lead to obtaining the HW Award logo started at Charles University in autumn 2017 when the Declaration of Commitment of Charles University for „The European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers“ was signed by the rector of Charles University prof. Tomáš Zima.

This was however just the beginning. Charles University had to establish its Steering committee that would overlook the whole procedure.

The next step was to analyze the internal situation and prepare Gap Analysis1 (analysis of existing difference between current processes and those incorporated in Charter and Codex) and Action Plan as well as Gannt Chart (schedule of planned actions aimed to erase the difference). We identified areas in which actions are to be carried out in order to reduce the inconsistency between the principles of the Charter and the Code and the internal situation at CU, with respect to the opinion of researchers (R1-R4) who took part in the Analysis.
