Rector
prof. RNDr. Jiří Zima, CSc.
The Rector is the executive head of the University and is appointed to this post by the President of the Czech Republic on the basis of a nomination by the Academic Senate of the Charles University, to which he is accountable for the performance of his office. The Rector presents drafts of internal regulations, budgets, fundamental policy documents (long-term plans), evaluations of compliance with plans (annual reports), and other documents and decisions concerning the whole University to the Academic Senate.
On Friday, 6 February 2026, during the plenary session of the Academic Senate of Charles University Jiří Zima introduced his team, whose members will work with him as Rector over the next four years to lead the university into a new phase of development. It consists of eleven Vice-Rectors and is complemented by six members of the board, who will be responsible for key areas of Charles University’s management. The Rector’s Board is a permanent advisory body to the Rector.
