Rector's Directive No. 46/2017


The Use of Genetically Modified Organisms and Genetic Products at Charles University

To implement:

Act No. 78/2004 Sb., on the Use of Genetically Modified Organisms and Genetic Products, as amended, and regulation No. 209/2004 Sb., on Detailed Conditions for the Use of Genetically Modified Organisms and Genetic Products

Date of effect:

1 July 2017

Article 1

  1. Charles University in Prague (the “University”) can use genetically modified organisms and genetic products based on a relevant authorisation.

  2. Genetically modified organisms and genetic products can be used at faculties where such use is necessary for educational, scientific, or research activities.

Article 2

In the matters of the use of genetically modified organisms and genetic products, the University is represented by the deans of faculties who have been authorised in writing by the Rector.

Article 3

  1. An application for the contained use, release into the environment, or entry in the Register for Release into Circulation, or the notice of the contained use are submitted on behalf of the University by the dean of the respective faculty.

  2. The dean of the respective faculty is accountable to the Rector for the discharge of all duties arising from the use of genetically modified organisms and genetic products under Act No. 78/2004 Sb., on the Use of Genetically Modified Organisms and Genetic Products, as amended (the “Act”), and related legislation.

  3. The faculty sends the copies of schedules of genetically modified organisms and final reports to the Rector as well.

  4. The faculty must notify the Rector without delay of any accident.

Article 4

The Department of Science and Research of the Rector’s Office of the University provides administrative support which is necessary for the completion of the tasks of the University in accordance with the Act.

Article 5

  1. The deans of the faculties which use genetically modified organisms and genetic products on the date of effect of this directive will inform the Rector accordingly within 30 days of the date of effect of this directive.

  2. This directive becomes effective on 1 July 2017.

  3. The Rector’s directive No. 48/2014 is repealed.
