The ERC Starting Grant, worth €1.5 million, goes to Jakub Drápal, who focuses on the issue of criminal sentencing across continental Europe.

	Charles University’s First Faculty of Medicine is receiving its first prestigious ERC Starting Grant. It was awarded to biophysicist Andrea Gálisová, who also worked at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel. As an imaging methods expert, it was there that she came across her current research topic: extracellular vesicles, which until recently were considered a kind of “cellular waste.”

His groundbreaking work has transformed biology’s understanding of genetic regulation and opened paths toward new therapeutic strategies. He has long collaborated with his wife, Candy Lee Ambros, his co-researcher for decades.
