Dear doctoral candidates,

We bring you the first issue of the newsletter for doctoral candidates at CU. In the newsletter, you will find an overview of events, seminars, and other information prepared as part of the Doctoral Study Hub. The aim of this platform is to provide transferable skills, courses, and other events to support your scientific and academic career. Since English is the language of science, the newsletter is published in English, but has a section in Czech with information about courses and other events held only in Czech.

We hope you enjoy our first issue and that you look forward to the next one as much as we do.

Open Science

8 and 17 APR "Open for You" is a webinar series unlocking the world of open science. Explore freely, without borders or paywalls, as we delve deeper into the movement for open access to publications, which is reshaping the academic world.

Spring Clothes Collection

11 to 12 APR Do you have any clothes, socks or cosmetics gathering dust at home? Then you can give them to CU Point at Celetná 13. We will donate the collected clothes to the Jako doma charity and to the Šatník foundation for single parents.

Survival Czech 2

16 APR to 16 MAY Ahoj, jmenuji se… If you are a Ph.D. student who has finished Survival Czech: Language Course for Beginners, join our second follow up webinar. This course will focus on apologies, time expressions, and daily routines.

World Health Day

20 APR Students from the IFMSA have prepared several preventive examinations as part of World Health Day. They will have a stand at the Černý Most Shopping Centre in Prague, the Plaza Centre in Pilsen, and Aupark in Hradec Králové.

Jobspin Job Fair Prague

20 APR Jobspin Job Fair is designed for international job seekers in Prague looking for new opportunities in Marketing, Communication, Customer Service, Finance, IT and many other sectors. The fair is free of charge.

HYB4 Plant Swap

26 to 27 APR Bring plants that will make others happy and swap them for ones that will make you happy. Collect a maximum of five plants. You can also enjoy several workshops, lectures, and other craftwork that go along with spring.

Building Birdhouses

22 APR The Volunteering Centre invites you to an Earth Day event organised together with Hnutí Brontosaurus. Together we will build birdhouses and hang them on trees in the area of the MFF UK in Troja.

English for Academic Writing

22, 24 and 29 APR The 9-hour programme will teach you how to plan, organize, and write clear, well-structured, and accurate texts for publication. The seminar is interactive and will include an open discussion.

Doctoral Peer Club: Share Your Conclusion

29 APR Do you need advice for your academic writing? Join our Ph.D. group and gain support and valuable feedback that can help you develop your article or dissertation.

Institutional Research Data Policy

The university has adopted a Research Data Policy to help guide researchers through the process of research data management and lead them to the support available at the university.

Expand your Horizons

A range of opportunities like workshops and summer schools is currently available for Ph.D. students in the 4EU Alliance, providing a great platform to foster collaboration.

Discounts and Tokens

The University offers tokens and discounts on open access publishing to its authors. The list of eligible publishers and rules for token allocation is at the Open Science Centre’s website.
