• The rector is a head of Charles University and its academic organ.

• The rector acts and decides in every matter concerning the university, except for the matters which the Higher Education Act gives into competence of other university or faculty organs.

• The rector is an external representant of the university, and a university representant in the Czech Rector Conference.

• The rector is appointed and removed by the president of the Czech Republic on the recommendation of the academic senate.

• The term of rector´s office is four years.
