Matriculation and GraduationCharles University preserves tradition of ceremonial transitional rituals, matriculation and graduation. Graduation ceremony (“promoce”) is the farewell ceremony of Charles University with a graduate (bachelor, master, doctor), in which the graduate takes an academic wow (“sponse”, in Latin) and receives from the promoter (“promotor”) the diploma entitling to use academic degrees. The rite in present ceremonial form takes place in the Great Ceremonial Hall of Carolinum (master and doctoral graduations) or in the Great Hall of House of Professed on Lesser Town Square (bachelor graduations), and the university insignia and dresses (caps and gowns) are of use in it.
Graduation Ceremonies of Graduates from Doctoral Study ProgrammesThe graduation ceremonies of graduates on doctoral study programmes are influenced by the actual number of graduates, and take place both, as separate ones at faculties and as common ones for more faculties. Common graduation ceremonies are ensured by the student affairs office of Rectorate (Rector’s Office) on the basis of data from faculties and take place twice a year – in May and November. For the separate graduation ceremonies provides the respective faculty depending on the number of graduates once or twice a year. The graduate shall obtain all information on the course of celebratory award of doctoral diplomas in written from the respective faculty (from the division of science or student affairs office).
Higher Education DiplomaThe higher education diploma attests to the completion of a study programme in the relevant study branch. Higher education diploma includes the national coat of arms of the Czech Republic in addition to the designation of the relevant higher education institution and the academic degree awarded; as a rule, the higher education institution presents it at an academic ceremony. |
