Matriculation and GraduationCharles University preserves tradition of ceremonial transitional rituals, matriculation and graduation. Matriculation is a ceremony during which the first time enrolled student in faculty register promises to comply with his/her study duties and respect a moral obligation to the university, to its regulations, and to decision of the academic functionaries. In the same way solemn is leave-taking of CU and the graduate (bachelor, master, doctor) during the graduation ceremony in which the graduate takes an academic vow (in Latin) and receives a diploma from the hands of the promotor, which authorizes him/her to use academic titles. The ceremonials in the present-day ceremonial form usually take place in the Great Auditorium of Carolinum and the university insignia and the ceremonial clothes (gowns/ robes) are used.
