Advancement Process at Charles University

1. Application containing:

• name and surname,

• birth date,

• permanent residence address (including the address which the decision shell be delivered to; and phone number),

• or presentation of certified warranty for a representative settling the request,

• purpose of the applicant´s asking for the recognition.

2. Appended Documents

• certified copy of a diploma or of an adequate document issued by a foreign university,

• certified copy of the statement of examinations,

• documents translated into Czech language

The applicant applies through the CU faculty that realizes the identical or analogous accredited academic program. (The applications delivered directly to CU rector´s office are always referred to a respective faculty to make a statement.) The faculty will assess the application and submitted documents, and will relegate it with the standpoint to the CU rector´s office to be settled.

The CU rector will either give a decision on issuing a certificate or a decision on rejecting the application. Both the decision and the certificate are delivered to the applicant personally.

It is possible to appeal against the decision to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports through CU in Prague.

An academic title which has been recognized by a foreign university to the graduate and which is mentioned in the diploma is recognized simultaneously with the recognition of university qualifications. The foreign diploma holder is therefore entitled to use an academic title and other designation of the graduate from the university mentioned in his/her diploma.
