Introduction and use of student ID cards at Charles University in Prague (see rector´s measures no. 13/2003 and no. 7/2009)

On the basis of discussion of the extended senate on May 26, 2003 and on the basis of concurrent decision of the academic senate of CU on June 6, 2003 new CU student ID cards are issued from September 2003. These ID cards are chip cards with personal data, barcode, photo, signature line and express the student´s belonging to Charles University by means of the name of the university and CU symbol (hologram).

Following rules are determined:

Each student of  CU will have one ID card which will be valid throughout the continuous study at Charles University,  for the maximum of nine years from the first day of the civil year following after the day of issuing. Change of study program or faculty does not influence the ID card validity.  After termination or interruption of study the student will have to give back the ID card, and after finishing the interruption of study the student will obtain the identical card free of charge.

At first issue each student will choose either the ID card of CU or the ID card of CU with an ISIC licence (International Student Identity Card). Issuing the student ID card is free of charge, issuing the student ID card with ISIC costs 160 CZK (and with the ISIC licence valid in the academic year 2009/2010 and farther it costs 190 CZK). Extension of the ISIC validity (with holographic label) also costs 160 CZK (and 190 CZK starting from the academic year 2009/2010). If the student wishes to change the ID card for the ID card with ISIC,  it will be the same price as in case of repeated issue of ID card (see loss of ID card etc.).

Coupons validating the ID card in an academic year and the student´s membership of a particular faculty will be issued free of charge together with the ID card (both with and without the ISIC licence). The coupons are issued at the study department of a faculty during the academic year´s enrollment. The academic year coupon is valid from July 1 before the beginning of an academic year to October 31 following after the end of the academic year. The ID card without a valid coupon is neither valid nor the study at CU can be authenticated. The faculty can demand both valid ID card and coupon when accessing to certain objects, facilities and information technologies or services.

A case for the ID card is issued free of charge.

Central organization of issuing cards in Prague, Hradec Kralove and Pilsen: issue centres especially extend validity of the ISIC licence and issue ID cards to new students of Charles University.
