JACK KENT COOKE FOUNDATION UNDERGRADUATE TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIPS

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is a private, independent foundation established by Jack Kent Cooke to help exceptionally promising students reach their full potential through education. Launched in 2000, the Foundation focuses in particular on students with financial need.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship makes it possible for the nation’s top community college students to complete their bachelor’s degrees by transferring to a four-year college or university. The Foundation provides up to $30,000 per year to each of approximately 50 deserving students selected annually, making it the largest private scholarship for two-year and community college transfer students in the country.

Each award is intended to cover a significant share of the student’s educational expenses – including tuition, living expenses, books and required fees – for the final two to three years necessary to achieve a bachelor’s degree. Awards vary by individual, based on the cost of tuition as well as other grants or scholarships he or she may receive.

To be eligible for the program, students must be nominated by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Faculty Representative at their two-year institution. Students cannot apply directly to the Foundation. Each two-year college may nominate up to four students (depending upon institution enrollment) each year to be considered for the scholarship.

USA: SUNY Plattsburgh Increases Financial Aid Packet for Internation

We are enjoying some quiet time in the office because of winter break (the five-week period between the end of the fall semester and the beginning of the spring semester).  So, while parking is plentiful and walk-in visitors limited, we are very busy reviewing applications for the fall 2012 semester and preparing for the arrival of about 50 new international students later this month.  It seems a good time to reflect and to provide updates and reminders that you might find useful:

Our  Externí odkaz international scholarship calculator has been updated to reflect our enhanced financial aid package and billed costs of attendance for international undergraduates for the 2012-2013 academic year.  Take a look!  The average award package is expected to increase by about $2,000 from last year.  This year, the range worldwide is $2,500 to $10,000 depending on academic merit, country of residence, and financial need.

Our application processes and criteria have not changed, but as a reminder, we accept applications through three sources:

                Common Application

                Institutional Application

                SUNY Application Services Center

Information about applying as an international student can be found on our Externí odkaz website.  We employ rolling admission, so there is no specific deadline for admission applications to be received.  However, we recommend that complete applications be submitted by April 1 to enhance the potential for admission and for financial aid.

We award Externí odkaz advanced-standing credit for students successfully completing a number of nationally (Tanzanian Advanced-Level Exams), regionally (e.g., Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Exams) and internationally (e.g., International Baccalaureate Diploma) standardized examinations, as well as Externí odkaz transfer credit from post-secondary institutions worldwide.

Finally, if you wish to receive current, printed materials from us (e.g., catalog, poster, etc.), please complete an Externí odkaz online request so that we are sure to send you just what you want and need.

I look forward to hearing from you soon and often.

Best regards,

Jackie

Application Fee Waiver for International Relations Program at SIS American University

Greetings from the School of International Service (SIS) at American University. As we move on to another graduate admissions cycle for Master's and PhD programs in International Relations, I'd like to share with you some good news:

1. In our continued effort to support the Fulbright program and its scholars, SIS will now waive the $50 application fee for master's and PhD applications from any Fulbright scholar.  The $50 application fee is also waived for any non-sponsored student who is the first person in his/her family to attend university. In the case of sponsored students, when the applicant/organization proceeds to the end of the online application and is prompted to pay, please choose the "check" option and alert us via email that this is for a sponsored applicant, so that we can waive the fee in our system.  In the case of first-generation college students, there is a question on the application that asks if you are a first-generation college student.  If yes, the application fee will be automatically waived.

2. The professional and scholarly Foreign Policy Magazine has just released its latest ranking for top IR programs in the country, with AU-SIS as the 8th most competitive in the U.S. for graduate programs and 10th for undergraduate programs: Externí odkaz http://www.foreignpolicy.com/ivory_tower.  Click on "The Top 10 IR Masters Programs" right under the article and page through to read about AU-SIS.  Additionally, the former senior editor of Foreign Policy, David Bosco, is currently an SIS faculty.  Any student interested in international organizations/entities such as the UN or the International Criminal Court can hear Professor Bosco speak online at Externí odkaz http://vimeo.com/28200634.

Students interested in IR should also read about the most recent Teaching, Research, and International Policy Survey (TRIPS) that details the views of international relations faculty from every four-year college and university in the United States: Externí odkaz http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2012/01/03/the_ivory_tower.

Please feel free share the good news with your students as we approach the Fall 2012 preferred application deadline of January 15, 2012.  We thank you for all the hard work you do and wish you a fantastic 2012!

MONMOUTH COLLEGE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Founded in 1853 by pioneering Scotch-Irish Presbyterians, Monmouth College brought the blessings of civilization to the people of the rough frontier and spoke of traditional values to those who were shaping a new world. Though today our life knows different frontiers, the College still thinks of its purpose as its founders did—preserving and celebrating the traditions that have been entrusted to it while promoting discovery and investigation.

Monmouth College has had a longtime commitment to welcoming international students, but it is now stepping that up with the introduction of two generous scholarships.

“For the past several years, international students have paid a set rate to attend Monmouth College, regardless of their academic profiles,” explained vice president of enrollment management Omar Correa. “We are pleased to provide this new financial assistance, especially to very talented international students who know they want to attend college in the U.S. but have concerns about the cost.”

Our 2011 Sweet Diggity Dawg scholarship competition is officially underway! If you’re new to Zinch, this is our longest running and most prestigious scholarship award. Each year applicants are selected to compete based on their Zinch profile—students then go head-to-head, with fellow Zinch users voting to advance the best profile, until only one student remains claiming the $20,000 scholarship. Applicants must be U.S. or international high school students graduating in 2011, 2012, 2013 or 2014.

To be considered for the ISS, applicants must have on file a completed application for admission and completed ISS application by the stated deadline. As the problems of development and inequality become ever more complex and global, GPD aims to provide graduate students with the interdisciplinary skills necessary for innovative research.

EU: Collaboration Grants, European Cultural Foundation/27.7.2011

*Eurocult Collaboration Grants*

Collaboration Grants support independent cultural organisations working together across borders and disciplines.

Collaboration Grants fund transnational, cross-sectoral activities by independent cultural and artistic organisations working together or with organisations from other sectors. The main applicant needs to be a cultural organisation based in Europe (EU Europe and EU Neighbourhood region), while partner applicants can work in sectors outside the cultural field.

ECF regards the ideal 'collaboration' as one that brings a renewed understanding of Europe to people of all backgrounds, and inspires them to regard the world's future as a shared enterprise. We particularly admire efforts that are daring, different and challenge the status quo. The average award funded is EUR15,000 with the maximum being EUR30,000.

Collaboration Grants are supported by De BankGiro Loterij and De Lotto received through Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.

Projects Supported by Collaboration Grants

Breaking into the Museum is a project that not only gets youth into museums but also leads to new curatorial perspectives and interpretations. Produced by Manifesta (UK) with partners in France and Portugal, the project has young people from a diversity of backgrounds 'breaking into the museum' and through the making of their own video connecting with the 'official' history and heritage as represented by a particular collection. It has received much acclaim for its fresh approach and even fresher results. See an article from the BBC here.

Children's Project, produced by Swedish-based Lava Dansproduktion with partners in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine, introduced a new dance approach through performances and workshops for children, and also stimulates exchanges between dancers from across Eastern Europe.
